But isn’t that the real picture? Every child is an evolving soul at the very core of its existence, and its association with the parent is actually the means for the fulfillment of its life’s mission. In the end it sums up to where this soul stands and how far is it from its stand at the time of its birth. Not to mention, we hope for progress and not regress.
Parents through all ages have strived to give to their children the very best of their times, of course, withstanding the limitation of resources available to them. We raise our children and educate them at great schools, arrange for tuitions, recreation, sports and means of comfort; encourage them to confront challenges and competition... all with the intention of molding them into strong adults ready to face the world and to walk their life path smoothly, especially after we are gone.
We also try to instill in them moral education. But how many of us think about awakening the soul within each growing individual? As parents, is it not our duty to be an instrument of their spiritual advancement as well... just as we assume the role of their guardian in all other respects? Do we view our children beyond the precincts of being ‘my son’ or ‘my daughter’, rather an individual ‘soul’ that has manifested to evolve through its present life? Is it not a critical responsibility of a parent to awaken the child to its latent innate spiritual power and ‘soul’ identity? ...to ‘educate’ the child in the history, geography and science of his or her spiritual truth?
...Most of us don’t.
While raising a child, it is very important to keep our perspective wide and open so we can also perceive the child’s inner being and not remain confined within the concept of his or her physical manifestation as our offspring. This realization is not only vital to the child’s spiritual evolution, but also to our conduct and ‘karma’ that help awaken our own soul consciousness too!
As a parent, each of us is our child’s most intimate teacher in life. So we need to train ourselves to be the perfect teacher. A true teacher or Guru would pour upon the pupil all the knowledge he has, and once he is assured that the pupil has absorbed that knowledge well, will gladly let the latter proceed to the next level. Just as a guru never detains the one who is ready for the next level of education, so should every parent, in course of serving as the child’s guide, strive to overcome the sense of possessing the child due to the biological connection, but rather guide the ‘soul’ to a higher level of consciousness. Let it blossom, give it the right perspective and the space to unfold its wings and take the destined flight once you have nourished it with love, care, compassion and most importantly, with Truth about itself, its origin, its spiritual identity of the being within.
Once you have taught the soul to listen to the consciousness within, rest assured that you have reinstated the channel to its eternal guide! Once it hears its inner voice, consider your mission as the parent accomplished.
May truth prevail at our hearts and shine out through each one of us to illuminate our little ones!
